Hello, Artenauta! Today we would like to bring you closer to contemporary art, focusing on Latin America, to tell you about some of the most famous Mexican painters in history. Let’s get started!

Frida Kahlo (1907-1954)

Probably one of the best known Mexican artists worldwide. Her life, marked by health problems and her marriage to Diego Rivera, is the protagonist of her works, which reflect a whole world of experiences, emotions and ideas. Her work is marked by the symbolism of color, which, depending on the message she wished to convey, she used with great skill, drawing the viewer into Frida’s inner world.

Rufino Tamayo (1889-1991)

An outstanding figure in Mexican painting (probably its greatest representative), of international fame, he was part of the “group of the 3” (Rivera, Siqueiros and Orozco). He was a great muralist whose work gradually moved away from realism to give way to the richness of the expression of his inner world.

Diego Rivera (1886-1957)

He is known worldwide for his realist and cubist paintings and for his murals in Mexico and the United States. His work has influenced countless artists and his life, like that of his wife, Frida Kahlo, continues to arouse great curiosity and interest.

David Alfaro Siqueiros (1896-1974)

He is one of the most famous Mexican muralists. He stood out for being the most daring in terms of aesthetics and technique in his works, investigating the use of new materials. Artists such as Jackson Pollock passed through his experimental art studio in New York.
