This crisis leads him to introspection.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In 1812, <strong>the War of Independence<\/strong>, which plunged the artist into a deep depression, suffering from fears and nightmares.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>His oeuvre includes<\/strong> around 500 oil and mural paintings, as well as some 300 lithographs and etchings and hundreds of drawings.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Two of his greatest works<\/strong>,<strong><em> Los fusilamientos del tres de mayo and La carga de los mamelucos en la Puerta del Sol<\/em>,<\/strong> were painted when he was over sixty-eight years old.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>La maja desnuda<\/strong>, one of his most famous works, was commissioned by Godoy.
